How to choose curtains for the children’s room?

Anyone who has children does not need to explain that with the advent of a child, absolutely everything changes in the house. From the contents of your grocery basket to your daily routine. Everything starts to revolve around the baby. So that he is safe and comfortable, so that he grows up healthy and happy.

The interior of your home is also being transformed. And when you equip a nursery, one of the most important elements in it is properly selected window coverings. After all, they serve as the background to the whole room and are responsible for the sound sleep of the child and for his safety. When choosing curtains for a children’s room, pay attention to the following qualities that good coverings must have.

  1. Security
    This is the most important criterion, guided by which, you now have to design not only window openings, but also the rest of the decoration of the house. Children are inquisitive and very mobile, it is difficult to keep track of them. Unfortunately, there are cases when games and simple carelessness led to a tragic outcome. A small child may stumble and get tangled in the curtain control cords. At best, he will get off with fright, at worst, he will get seriously injured.

Therefore, free—hanging curtain ropes and blinds are the first thing parents should remove as soon as possible. There are several ways to do this:

Move the crib and toys as far away from the window as possible;
Mount special fasteners into the wall or window frames, with which you can fix dangling ropes.
However, if you have been thinking about updating the interior for a long time and want to ensure the absolute safety of the baby, the best solution is to purchase new curtains with elements of child safety. For example, models with secure cord fasteners or with an electric motor.

  1. Darkening properties
    Young parents like no one else understand the value of a healthy sound sleep. Your own sleep, first of all. They know that with numerous awakenings in the middle of the night to feed the baby, change diapers and put him to bed again, every minute of rest is worth its weight in gold.

Blackout blackout curtains with low light transmission capacity are a great option. Not only for infants, for whom the semi-darkness in the room will help to sleep soundly and calmly. This window design option will be a signal for daytime sleep for older children, and will also help parents to have a good rest during the bright spring and summer evenings.

There are many varieties of blackout fabric-based curtains available today. These are classic textile curtains to the floor, and options up to the windowsill, such as Roman, Austrian or French curtains.

  1. Relevance over time
    Other people’s children grow up fast. And our own — even faster. Parents will not have time to look back, as the baby turns into a toddler who goes to kindergarten, and now they have a ten-year-old child in front of them.

The design of window openings is an investment that no parent would want to make every two or three years. Therefore, choose models that will be relevant in a few years. When you want to order curtains with typewriters for your son, remember that he will soon become a teenager. When thinking about the color of cotton candy with unicorns for a cute daughter, think about the fact that in the near future her bedroom may go to a boy or even turn into your office.

The best way out of this situation will be curtains of neutral tones: olive, beige, coffee, light gray. And if you think it’s too boring for a child’s interior, you’re wrong. A sea of toys and other accessories will not let you forget that in front of you is a nursery. And if you want to make it brighter, decorate the wall with a picture with a story from a fairy tale and buy bed linen with superheroes or barbie. All this is easier to replace than curtains.

  1. Practicality
    Children often get dirty themselves and leave stains and marks all around. Street dirt, paint, plasticine, chocolate — this is just an incomplete list of what a child can mark his way around the house from point A to point B.

Choosing window coverings in the nursery (and in all other rooms too), stop at a model that is easy to clean. These can be:

  • Horizontal wooden blinds. This really ageless version looks stylish and is easily cleaned of dust and dirt with a regular sponge;
  • Roller blinds. Practicality is a key attribute of such a solution. The fabric fits snugly to the glass, so that the probability of soiling it is minimal. This model can be supplemented with classic curtains based on darkening materials.
  • Pleated blinds. Modern materials of this option keep the room warm in winter and protect it from overheating in summer. In addition, the blinds can be washed with water, while observing the cleaning rules.
  • Roman curtains based on blackout fabric. One of the most popular options for the nursery. Fashionable and modern, these curtains are sewn from any kind of textile, which will help parents to choose the most practical color and material in advance.

Convenience, relevance, high—quality materials and child safety mechanisms – all this distinguishes the products Motiva.ee . Order a free consultation from our designer to choose the best option for your most loved ones.
